SEGA Games No More Sonic Hero - SEGA's Loot Shooter, Hyenas, is Cancelled
Dreadknux posted a topic in SEGA
SEGA has announced a sudden cancellation of its upcoming first-person loot shooter, Hyenas. The game was being developed by Total War studio Creative Assembly, and would have featured a player character that cosplayed as Sonic the Hedgehog. During a financial update to investors, SEGA Sammy revealed that the project - which had reportedly been facing something of an existential crisis for months - would be scrapped alongside "some unannounced titles under development" due to what it calls a "lower profitability of the European region". Announced in mid-2022 and promising fast-paced shooting action with a comical flair, the game featured teams of space-raiders running derelict space environments and fighting each other for ownership of the stage's most valuable items. Some of the collectibles that players could loot included Sonic the Hedgehog-themed figurines, and there was even a Hero called 'Hero-ki' that would have taken on maps in full blue blur cosplay. The move is somewhat surprising given the game was prominently available at Gamescom just last month for players to demo. However, it seemed that in the end, SEGA execs internally could not find a route to success for Hyenas, with discussions surrounding its business model and rumours of the game launching as a free-to-play experience (assumedly with micro-transactions). But alas, it was not to be. A shame that such an interesting project would collapse in this way, particularly as it seemed that UK-based Creative Assembly had greater ambitions outside of its staple RTS Total War series following the critical acclaim of Alien Isolation, a first-person thriller that the studio released in 2014. We hope Creative Assembly gets the chance to work on something else very soon - and we definitely hope that none of those other unannounced cancelled projects involved any hedgehog-based fun either! Samba de Amigo: Party Central Sonic Music, Costumes, and a Delay Hit Samba de Amigo: Party Central
GX -The Spindash- posted a topic in SEGA
MAY 24 UPDATE: The Digital Deluxe Edition is now available for pre-order for $50, ten more than the standard edition. Those waiting to shake maracas once again... will have a bit longer to wait, as Samba de Amigo: Party Central for Switch has been pushed to an August 29 release with a newly announced Digital Deluxe Edition. Those who go for this edition will get six DLC songs spanning Sonic and SEGA franchises, as well as Sonic and SEGA series costumes for Amigo. Sonic Music DLC pack: Open Your Heart - Sonic Adventure Reach for the Stars (Re-Colors) - Sonic Colors: Ultimate I'm Here - Sonic Frontiers SEGA Music DLC pack: Bakamitai (Taxi Driver Edition) - Yakuza series Go Go Cheer Girl! - Space Channel 5: Part 2 Rhythm Thief Theme - Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure Costumes: Sonic Tails (shown with Eggman maracas) Pink Morolian - Space Channel 5 AiAi - Super Monkey Ball Green Puyo hat (shown with Puyo maracas) While not all of these songs seem like they inherently fit with a bouncy, energetic rhythm game quite as well as Amigo fits inside a costume of a completely different monkey, one of the standouts is "Rhythm Thief Theme," a 3DS gem directed by Shun Nakamura (who also directed the original Samba de Amigo). It's not yet specified if these packs will be available outside of the Digital Deluxe Edition, and if so, for what price; however, it's likely that physical buyers will get a chance, as SEGA notes that not all items in this pack will hit at the game's launch. At time of writing, SEGA is advertising that pre-orders for the Digital Deluxe Edition are available, but the link on the game's official webpage links to the standard $39.99 edition on the Nintendo eShop. We love good music here at Stadium Towers. It’s not all just Crush 40 and Tomoya Ohtani either - sometimes we listen to good old ‘normie’ bands as well. Like Tenacious D, a rock comedy duo featuring frequently topless middle-aged men that sing acoustic melodies about karate and dodgy sex acts and… hm. Anyway, the double-act of Jack Black and Kyle Gass have recently released a new song, all about video games! And not only is it a banger, it also features Sonic the Hedgehog references! Watch it below: The Sonic cameo appears at the 0:20 mark, and involves Black and Gass assuming the roles of Sonic and Tails respectively. The pair also insert themselves into a number of other video game series, while they sing about not really being interested in the hobby (although they secretly kind of are). It’s a great short song, with some brilliant animation, and we wanted to post it here and help brighten up your day ahead of the weekend ahead. Happy Friday! Big thanks to Hill Top Terebi for the tip! View full story

Looks like that rumour about Sonic the Hedgehog being in the next Smash Bros game has reared its head again, only this time you should probably not take too much notice. This latest 'news' comes as part of an early prank in the April issue of US magazine EGM. Sonic HQ reports that the upcoming issue of the monthly gaming magazine will claim that "Sonic & Tails are playable in Super Smash Brothers Melee if you score 20 KOs in cruel mode... it's not true, though." The magazine will include three screenshots, but these are fake. Source: Sonic HQ

Sonic, Tails and Knuckles have made their way onto the North American and European Phantasy Star Online servers! We weren't sure if they were going to appear after we heard the news that they'd cameo on the Japanese version, but this is great news! You can find the Triple Threat - as well as Dr. Eggman - on the Pioneer 2. You'll notice that Crush 40's 'Open Your Heart', the theme to Sonic Adventure, is also playing in the background. How cool is that!? Sonic and co will be present during the blue blur's Anniversary week.

Check this out - Sega has released brand new screenshots of Phantasy Star Online featuring characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Seems like Sonic Team wants to hype up the blue blur's 10th Anniversary as much as possible! If you're a Japanese player of PSO, you'll be able to see Sonic, Tails and Knuckles plod about the Pioneer online between June 16 and June 30. No word if this is going to happen in the West, but we'll let you know as soon as we hear of anything.

Sonic Team Games New Billy Hatcher Video Reveals Secret Special Guest
Andrew P posted a story in SEGA
SEGA of Japan has released a new Billy Hatcher movie on its official webpage, and if you watch til the very end you might get a very special surprise appearance from one of our favourite characters. This information was sent to me by Benji, who revealed that the secret guest only appears for a split-second, but it confirms he's all but in the game. That's right - it's Sonic the Hedgehog himself. We took our own picture of the blue blur's appearance ourselves too, take a look below! Head to the Billy Hatcher page on SEGA Japan's website here, or watch the trailer below. What do you guys think? Exciting huh?- 15 comments

Word has it that Sonic the Hedgehog will actually be a very well hidden character in Nintendo's upcoming brawling game for Gamecube, Super Smash Bros. Melee. Nintendo and Sega refused to comment on the rumor, so we'll see where it goes from here. View full story
